What was revealed in the Phantom Blade Zero State of Play?
S-GAME used the August 17, 2026 Phantom Blade Zero State of Play to explain how combat, exploration, progression, and difficulty fit together. The presentation confirmed more than 30 main weapons, 25 secondary Phantom Edges, recoverable upgrade materials, optional quests, and three difficulty settings.
The presentation also expanded on the game’s dark wuxia setting. Soul will meet residents across the Wulin, and helping them may open additional story paths or reveal more about the events behind his journey. The world hides enemies, treasures, and narrative clues away from the main route.

How do weapons and reforging work?
Players will be able to unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges. The arsenal includes direct melee options, ranged attacks, summons, and unusual martial-arts-inspired tools. Defeating certain enemies can also add their equipment or techniques to Soul’s available combat choices.
Weapons can be upgraded and paired with accessories to shape a build. S-GAME also confirmed a reforging system that returns materials invested in an upgraded weapon. Those materials can then be moved into another weapon, reducing the cost of experimenting with newly discovered equipment.
That flexibility matters in a game built around a large arsenal. Players should not have to abandon hours of progression simply because a later weapon better fits their preferred style.
What are the three difficulty options?
The presentation named three distinct ways to play:
- Wayfarer prioritizes accessibility and the story.
- Hellwalker introduces more advanced, adaptive enemy behavior.
- Sixty-Six Days builds on the higher challenge while tying defeat to Soul’s limited remaining lifespan.
The modes appear to change more than enemy health. Hellwalker is designed around smarter reactions, while Sixty-Six Days makes repeated defeat part of the game’s central 66-day premise. This gives experienced action players a higher-stakes option without making it the only way to see the story.
What is Donnie Yen’s role in Phantom Blade Zero?
Donnie Yen serves as a creative consultant, bringing martial-arts and action-filmmaking experience to the combat design. He also supplies facial and motion-capture performance for Mó Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul.
S-GAME first disclosed the collaboration alongside the game’s pre-order campaign. Read our report on the Phantom Blade Zero pre-order bonuses and Donnie Yen reveal for the earlier announcement.
